Though New Balance’s 550 and 650 models have dominated the lifestyle market over the past couple of years, it's important to celebrate the fact the styles were born with basketball at their core. Although they weren’t the most successful silhouettes on the court, the Steven Smith-designed models have certainly stood the test of time regardless, successfully riding the retro basketball sneaker wave since their resurrection in 2020. Now, two new colourways of the high-top 650 have surfaced, paying homage to one of the sport's most famous teams by arriving in yellow and purple hues.
Still managing to maintain a subtle appearance, both pairs arrive with a white leather base, with either “Interstellar” (purple) or “Honeycomb” (yellow) accents hitting the nylon collars and NB branding hits. Those with no allegiance to the Lakers will be pleased to know that the pairs are still minimal-looking enough for everyday wear, with white and titular-toned sole units rounding off both colourways.
Look for both colourways to land soon at New Balance: just hit the links above to set your release reminder. In the meantime, peep an early look at the next Aimé Leon Dore 550.
