Get ready for another exciting launch as the Patta x Air Jordan 7 Mahogany goes live later this week. This collaborative pack marks a first in the Jumpman legacy. Never before has the Jordan brand teamed up with a European label…until now!
"Out of love and necessity rather than profit and novelty,"; is the proud slogan behind Dutch label Patta. This goes someway to explaining why previous Nike x Patta collections have been so in-demand.
This is a fashion house that puts artistic and unconventional styling before making a quick buck. Not all of their previous sneakers have been universally loved but they do stand apart from anything else in the market. Can you be surprised that Jordan chose them as a pioneer for their first EU collaboration?!
Patta's Guillaume Schmidt and Vincent van de Waal looked to an era-defining silhouette, bypassing the more obvious and arguably more popular, earlier Jordan models. Instead, it's the Patta x AJ8 which celebrates their first introduction to street culture, way back in 1992.
“It was a golden era for hip-hop and a big year for me, a lot of very important albums that I still carry with me came out between '92 and '96. And aesthetically, those years had such colourful imagery and strong connections to black empowerment. The VII and its geometric patterns also have a reference to Africa,” says Schmidt.
Van de Waal describes the shoe as his "all-time favourite,"; a sentiment no doubt shared by many a Jumpman enthusiast. Even for those not well acquainted with this model, Patta's unique overhaul is guaranteed to pique some interest.
Painted in hues of brown and light beige, the look is finished off nicely with hits of vibrant red. Of course, it wouldn't be complete without Patta's iconic branding, on this pair, featuring to the midsole.
The Patta x Nike Jordan 7 Mahogany is joined by a larger collection of apparel. Guillaume Schmidt, Patta's Founder, borrowed inspiration from a iconic video clip of Michael Jordan for a pack including a tracksuit, shorts, t-shirts and boonie hat.
“The VII apparel was out of this world. The products that we worked on come straight from a short Jordan clip from Barcelona that became super famous. It features a segment where Michael walks past a huge billboard of himself where he's got the shoes on, and that image has been forever etched in my memory,” says Gee.
The full collection will be available this Saturday, 18th May via Patta. Otherwise, a wider release takes place via Nike UK on Saturday 15th June.
