Word on the street, courtesy of @zSneakerheadz on Instagram, suggests a proper icon is making a comeback this autumn. This Air Jordan 5 initially launched in 2011, to commemorate the inauguration of the Jordan Tokyo 23 retail location, and it was exclusively available within Japan. Because of that exclusivity, you still see pairs fetching nearly £3000 on the resale market.
The Tokyo AJ5 was a pair that would instantly draw attention from sneakerheads during the early 2010s. It was an era where Jordan rooled the retro roost, with NBA players and celebrities all pulling out the bright yellow Japan-exclusive Jordan 5s in lengthy closet tour videos. Ah, a simpler time when being a sneakerhead meant posting a deep fried edit of your latest pick-up. Heck it even predated a time when you could become viral by just eating cereal out of your shoe.
The Air Jordan 5 "Tokyo" boasts a striking yellow suede upper, and stitched a special "23" logo onto the lateral heel, with the Jumpman taking its usual spot on the rear. Underfoot, a mostly white midsole features those signature yellow shark teeth, and it all sits atop a translucent outsole.
Beyond that eye catching yellow, you'll find some considered details. Wolf Grey makes an appearance on the tongue, side netting, and eyelets, which brings a bit of equilibrium to the bold colourway. Black accents on the laces, heel, and speckled shark teeth provide a contrast. Let's not forget the embroidered Kanji logo on the side; a proper nod to its heritage that collectors absolutely adore.

Rumours are circulating that two distinct iterations of the Air Jordan 5 Tokyo could potentially arrive in 2025. One would sport the Jumpman logo, while the other could feature Nike Air branding, a bit like the rumours on the Undefeated Air Jordan 4 release.
Unlike the original which only hit the shelves of Japanese retailers with a Nike account, this retro Tokyo AJ5 will be available globally. That being said, we're expecting a small amount of units, considerably lower than the recent Air Jordan 5 "Black Metallic".
The Air Jordan 5 “Tokyo” is slated to land around the 27th of September, priced at £190, at select Jordan Brand stockists and Nike.com. Fancy grabbing these at retail? Then make sure you hit that bell icon, and we'll notify you the moment they drop.
