Following on from the likes of Aimé Leon Dore, Rich Paul and AURALEE, Comme des Garçons wants some of the New Balance 550 action. Being no stranger to a sneaker collaboration, we can't say we're surprised! As part of their CDG HOMME line, Rei Kawakubo's Japanese fashion label are expected to release two brand-new iterations of the popular NB silhouette in October. Here we take a first look at the colourways in the collection.
Sticking to the monochrome colour palette that the majority of CDG collaborations come dressed with, one of the NB 550s will come with a black leather upper and matching outsole, whilst tonal off-white accents can be found dotted across the rest of the body. Notably, this detailing outlines the large 'N' logos on the medial and lateral sidewalls, adorns the 550 branding at the bottom of the tongue, as well as the large New Balance branding label at the top of the tongue. Adding clarity is a clean "Sail"-toned midsole between the darker-hued features.
The second iteration on first glance appears to be the reverse of the other. However, no black piping can be found outlining the Ns embossed into the sidewalls, but there is a black underlay peeping through the perforated leather panelling. The tongue comes mostly in white, as if to blend into the background, and it's worth nothing that the pair come with an off-white midsole and contrasting black rubber outsole, identical to the aforementioned pair.
At the moment, the only release date that's been hinted at is some time in October. To make sure these hot CDG x New Balance 550s don't slip through your radar, set your reminder by clicking the links on this page or head on over to our app to turn on release notifications. The New Balance 550 is set to be the sneaker of the year, so no doubt they're going to be pretty difficult to get hold of, especially in these super versatile and wearable colourways.
