Yohji Yamamoto and adidas’ longstanding partnership is now over 20 years old, and over the course of the sublabel’s existence, it’s embraced many changing sneaker trends. Last year, the duo introduced a Gazelle into the mix, and the terrace classic is set to stay for SS23 - continuing to ride the waves of last year’s Blokecore trend.
The duo’s latest Gazelle doesn’t stray too far from last season’s iteration, coming constructed from suede with contrasting white leather branded heel tabs. This pair arrives in a tonal colour palette, with high-fashion-style details in its exposed stitching and the loose hanging threads that work along the upper. In a nod to Yohji’s Japanese heritage, this stitching style is reminiscent of sashiko (meaning little stabs) - a stitching technique used to create patterns and repair garments.
Set to accompany the Y-3 Gazelle is another iconic adidas style: the Superstar. This pair follows a similar aesthetic, with an all-black look and unfinished stitching, debossed branding and a smooth toe cap.
The Gazelle is available now, and the Superstar is set to drop soon, so if you’ve been looking for an elevated black sneaker to add to your collection, this is one of the best chances you’ll get this season. Hit the links to secure your size, and after that, check out Sean Wotherspoon's upcoming adids Orketro.
