Arguably one of the most versatile silhouettes of all time, it’s no wonder that the Nike Dunk has been one of the most sought-after models of the past few years. Its clean and minimal aesthetic makes it one of the easiest models to style, and its construction lends itself perfectly to just about any colour combo under the sun. Having originally been designed as a basketball shoe (or skate shoe, if we’re talking about the SB version) the Dunk has firmly found its footing as more of a lifestyle legend, but that doesn’t mean it can’t revisit its roots in sports and American culture from time to time. With that in mind, here are four pairs that are dropping soon that definitely deserve a spot on your sneaker shelves.
First up, the Nike SB Dunk High “San Francisco Giants” is officially on the way. The pair pays homage to the team through a couple of special-edition details, namely the Giants-themed insignias on the back of the tongue tabs that depict a baseball glove (representing the statue outside of Oracle Park) and a kayak, which tells the story of fans kayaking in McCovey Cove and hoping to catch a ball.
The main build arrives in Giants colours, with a mix of cream-coloured mesh and suede making up the base of the sneakers. From here, a black and orange Swoosh, as well as matching tongue tabs and insoles add pops of contrast. This all rests atop a clean, black and white midsole which rounds off the pair perfectly.
Secondly, the baseball-theme continues on the Nike Dunk Low “Jackie Robinson”. If you’re unfamiliar with your baseball history, Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play in an MLB game in the modern era, which helped towards ending racial segregation within the sport.
The themed Dunk takes on a striking blue and off-white colourway that’s reportedly inspired by an aged version of Robinson’s uniform and is packed with details that pay homage to the player. Looking closely at the pair, you’ll see that Nike has taken one of Robinson’s most iconic quotes, and included it on the overlays and sockliner. It reads: “I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me... All I ask is that you respect me as a human being.” Further details can be spotted on the tongue and heel, and baseball-stitched laces quite literally tie the theme up.
Next, another MLB-themed pair is set to join the Dunk line-up, only this time the pair celebrates the LA Dodgers. The Nike Dunk Low SB “Los Angeles Dodgers” arrives in the Blue Crew’s signature colours, with bold blue suede overlays popping against the crisp white leather base. In true Dodgers style, red accents are used for the Nike branding hits, and extra team-themed details can be spotted on the interior tongue tags. Underfoot, a white and gum sole unit adds a super-clean finishing touch.
Finally, we’re swapping stadiums for the streets with this fourth iteration of the classic style – the FAUST x Nike SB Dunk High. For this pair, the Swoosh brand’s skate division has teamed up with the graffiti artist for a stealthy, black version of the shoe, complete with graffiti-esque gold detailing.
Starting off with a black nubuck base, the pair gives way to black leather overlays and a leather Nike Swoosh, before intricate gold lettering works its way around the heel. The gold embroidery then extends to the medial side of the left foot, where an embroidered Swoosh is finished with a drip effect to mimic fresh, dripping paint. Finally, FAUST’s moniker is stamped on to the dubraes, and the insoles come printed with “Sell Your Sole” wording.
