adidas Superstar Hanami

“Hanami”, which literally translates to ‘flower viewing’ in Japanese, is an ancient tradition that has helped people appreciate nature over many generations. Capturing the magic behind Hanami is the 3-Stripes, lacing up for another edition of its iconic Superstar, but with subtle storytelling that springs out for the more patient of sneakerheads. What may seem like an ordinary pair of classic Superstars at first is anything other than, as pulling them out of the blue adidas box and breaking them out into the sunlight soon reveals.

Just like with the arrival of summer in Japan, the cherry blossoms bloom onto the upper with the heat of sunlight. To begin with, only the embroidered outlines of the cherry blossom leaves remain visible on the upper, making it seem as though these are just a standard pair of Superstars. A simple combination of contrasting black 3-Stripes on a white upper is truly heritage adidas, a make-up we’ve seen time and time again. However, this “Hanami” edition can completely switch as the UV-reactant details turn pink with heat, hinted at by the cherry blossom featured on the tongue label. Inside, the insoles are covered in a floral print that can be matched with via the extra set of pink laces. Another pair with a similar level of storytelling is the adidas Originals Taegeukdang Superstar from 2022, a seemingly plain take on the silhouette that not only has a tear-off section but hides super vibrant artwork underfoot!
