adidas Y-3 Superstar Off White

This adidas Superstar has been given Y-3’s unconventional touch, with loose threads strewn about in multiple directions. While an unquestionably iconic silhouette, no shoe is too iconic for the likes of Yohji Yamamoto’s genius. Not afraid of the historical prowess of the Superstar, the design legend takes his knife out once again to bring us a unique rendition of an adidas shoe.

This cream-coloured upper may appear simple from afar, but once up close the magic becomes clear. Embracing the deconstructed stitching that Sean Wotherspoon popularised with his Stan Smith SUPEREARTH from 2020, exposed overlock stitching can be seen on the 3-Stripe sidewall. A premium off white leather is the base for the majority of the shoe’s construction, with a heavy suede making its way onto the heel and stripes. Branding has also been kept to a minimum as a small Y-3 sits debossed towards the back portion of the shoe. While this Superstar does not push the boundaries in comparison to other Y-3 projects, Yamamoto focuses on stitching alone, elevating a detail that so often comes as a second thought on such a classic.
