New Balance expands its foray into modern Y2K runners with the return of the 509 model. Making its mark via a regional-exclusive collaboration with South Korean designer and XLIM founder Kim Dohee, the New Balance 509 “Plumb Brown” incorporates the ice dyeing technique, embracing the concept that ice never stays the same once it begins to melt.
This early 2000s trainer boasts a dark purple open mesh upper with glossy patent leather overlays and streaks of metallic silver. This mixed-material execution creates a striking detail that changes under various lighting environments, a flawless element conceptualised by Kim Dohee. The mismatched “N” embellishes the sides in purple and silver, whilst “509” branding adorns the tongue and lateral rear sections. Perforated leather panels on the heel bolster the silhouette’s lightweight structure. Borrowing the NB 530’s cushioning setup, the black midsole features ABZORB and C-CAP technologies for responsive comfort.
