New Balance collaborates with South Korean designer Kim Dohee to revive a forgotten running shoe from the early 2000s. Kitted in premium materials to mimic the process of ice dyeing, the New Balance 509 “Black” displays a stealthy makeover to shroud the retro runner’s streamlined framework.
This iteration flaunts a black diamond mesh construction on the lateral panel, offset by eye-popping silver fabrics encompassing the medial. The luxurious patent leather overlays shine from every angle, whilst perforated leather materials reinforce the rear areas for additional breathability. The trademark “N” on the sidewalls appears in mismatched shades, blending atop their corresponding backgrounds. Silver “509” labels adorn the foxing and tongue, staying true to the silhouette’s Y2K-informed aesthetic. The lightweight foam midsole combines ABZORB and C-CAP cushioning for all-day comfort, a reliable setup originating from the fan-favourite NB 530.
