Amongst the extensive list of collaborations on the upcoming Supreme Spring/Summer 2023 season is another rumoured partnership with Nike, this time on the combining forces on the Air Bakin. The silhouette was born out of the ‘90s basketball era of Nike Design, bearing a resemblance to other models that were released at the time such as the Air Griffey Max 1 and the Air Pippen 1. The Air Bakin is surrounded by a mist of controversy and was quickly recalled after its ’97 debut, only receiving a small retro run in 2007 which has helped encourage its cult status within the footwear community.
Now Supreme has got its hands on the silhouette, wishing to give the shoe its signature touch. Although unreleased images have only revealed a side profile, it would seem as though the current drop is based on an OG red colourway. Combining a predominantly red and black upper, the ‘90s features on the Bakin are clear to see, with mini Swoosh detailing playing into that pre-millennia design language. Yellow rope laces complement the upper, adding a necessary flare that draws the eye away from the heavy side wall vents. An exposed Air Unit peeks out under the heel, while the forefoot is loaded with the undulating lines of the midsole.
Let’s hope more official images are released soon so we can get a proper idea of what to expect on the upcoming Nike x Supreme Air Bakin collaboration. Make sure you stay tuned into The Sole Supplier in the meantime!
