Known for hand-picking lesser-seen silhouettes from the extensive Nike archives, Supreme is back at it again, and this time around the NYC streetwear brand is launching a fresh take on the Air Bakin’. Originally introduced back in 1997 as a performance basketball sneaker, NBA All-Stars such as Tim Hardaway were noted for favouring the silhouette. The pairs offer a striking design that features minimal branding throughout, with Swoosh logos present on the uppers and midsoles only. Interestingly enough, the original Air Bakin’ was pulled from shelves after backlash from the Muslim community, with claims surfacing that the “AIR” logo on the heels bore a significant resemblance to “Allah” in arabic text.
The pair was quickly recalled and reissued with new branding, which is the Air Bakin’ that most of us will be familiar with today. Two colourways are set to hit Supreme stores and online on the 2nd March.
