As Nike celebrates the 35th Anniversary of the Air Max 1, the silhouette receives a regal touch with this Burgundy Crush colourway. This time around, the Swoosh has not held back with materials, even dressing the shoe in mock-crocodile leather that has these looking like a bespoke pair that came out Nike Kitchen’s 2000 era.
The first notable difference is the leather-wrapped midsole which forgoes the usual details and gives the shoe a more formal appearance. The crushed velvet on the toe box implies that these were not built for any athletic occasions, the waxed laces confirming that idea. A plush leather can be found underneath the swoosh with signs of creasing already creeping through. As previously mentioned, the mock-crocodile leather on the heel counter is the ultimate indicator of a premium release, the debossed Nike Air providing a subtle sense of branding. The gold eyestay is the cherry on top of the cake, wrapping up an array of quality materials that treat the silhouette to a royal makeover.
