True to its name, Los Angeles-based label Kids of Immigrants empowers diverse cultures in its latest collaboration with Nike Sportswear. The campaign highlights another colourway of the Air Max Sunder, a late ‘90s cult classic model that has amassed hype in recent years, thanks in large part to KOI’s highly coveted projects. First unveiled by founder Daniel Buezo during the Virgil Abloh Archives exhibition in Paris, this Kids of Immigrants x Nike Air Max Sunder “Black” offers a predominantly dark palette, deviating from the vivid designs of the previous iterations.
This retro-futuristic trainer features a pitch-black zip-up shroud with a bright red accent around the eyestay for a pop of colour. A dark brown nubuck toe cap provides added durability from dust and debris, while the grid-like plastic cage on the sidewalls replaces the original version’s wraparound mudguard. The mini Swoosh logo adorns the lateral collar and nylon pull tabs, complementing the co-branding on the insole. A “3062” detail on the tongue nods to KOI’s landline number, expanding the silhouette’s storytelling elements. The midsole utilises a Max Air bubble in the heel and a Nike Air unit in the forefoot for stable cushioning. Below, a massive “Kids Of Immigrants” label animates the tinted semi-translucent outsole. This pair arrives in a special-edition package with extra stickers and accessories.
