Nike Cortez Doernbecher Sydney

Nike and the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital introduce the 19th edition of their annual Doernbecher Freestyle collaborative project, giving six young patients the chance to showcase their creativity and passion through meaningful sneaker designs. This Nike Cortez Doernbecher “Multi” is a masterpiece by 14-year-old talented artist and competitive swimmer Sydney Little, taking inspiration from her love of swimming and hand-drawn designs to form a vibrant makeover.

Formed in 2004, the alliance between Nike and the Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) Doernbecher Children’s Hospital has raised over £30 million for the hospital, a testament to the Oregon-based sportswear giant’s commitment to giving back to the community and helping raise awareness on illnesses. The Nike x Doernbecher Freestyle XIX Collection banners six diverse sneakers designed by young kids from the hospital, with matching apparel to complete the capsule. Sydney Little’s Nike Cortez has a clean white leather base with a squishy glow-in-the-dark light green Swoosh, paying homage to her love of water. Meanwhile, the vibrant green heel tab has a hook-and-loop surface, serving as a backdrop to Sydney’s embroidered heart-shaped logo and detachable floral patches. Meanwhile, floral prints on the eyestay and lower rear represent her favourite flower and green colour. The semi-translucent outsole features glow-in-the-dark lines inspired by water reflection in a swimming pool. The “Keep Swimming” phrase adorns the inner tongue, while heart-shaped logos decorate the red camouflage sockliners. A subtle embossed flower appears on the lateral collar to complete this flamboyant Nike Cortez.
