This isn’t the first time we have seen Nike and Beijing-based retailer SOULGOODS collaborate on some kicks. This time, SOULGOODS is coming out with a pack of three shoes, each looking in a different direction for its inspiration. You could argue a case for either shoe being the best of the bunch, but what is clear is that the grey pair has the most vintage feel.
The grey pair takes inspiration from the Air Mac Attack, a tennis shoe worn by the racket-wielding legend, John McEnroe. The black and grey colourway itself is almost a one-for-one replica, the five perforations near the toe box being a further nod to the tennis shoe. On the heel of the shoe is where you can find the most obvious example of co-branding. The graphic on the back which reads “SOUL” on the right foot and “GOODS” on the left, takes its design from another classic Nike, the Terminator High. Although this time around some liberties have been taken with the letter sizing, an example of how much free reign SOULGOODS had when co-designing this shoe.
This homage to the Mac Attack is one way in which Nike aims to build awareness of the silhouette which is set for a re-release in 2023. Notably, Travis Scott was seen wearing OG Macs at courtside which will definitely increase the hype for the upcoming retro.
Built on great storytelling, this shoe would be a solid choice for your Nike Dunk rotation!
