Originally debuting in 2008, the Kobe 4 was a highly revered silhouette for both sneakerheads and ballers alike. Limited edition colourways such as the “Carpe Diem” and “Four Rings” from 2009 made them a great addition to Kobe’s Lakers Uniform at the time. Now, Nike is retro’ing the silhouette in 2023 to celebrate the larger-than-life spirit of Gianna “Gigi” Bryant with this Mambacita edition.
Arriving on what would have been her 17th Birthday, the pair nods to many of Gigi’s personal touches from both on and off the court. The white and black binary colourway is based on her youth basketball jersey, while the gingham around the heel and on the insole is a reference to the plaid shirts the Gigi often had wrapped around her waist. Head on underfoot and a red mini-Swoosh subtly nods to how Gigi would wear a red bow in her hair for school photos. As per-usual, the gold Mamba logo is embossed onto the tongue in gold, while a matching set of Mambacita hearts and wings on the insole allows you to represent Gigi’s love for the nature of competition.
