Salehe Bembury’s collaboration with Crocs has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of years, so much so that the union has become even more official. Bembury has just been announced as Creative Director of the Crocs x Pollex Pod line - a project that sees the designer take on a two-year partnership extension for the role.
While Bembury’s Pollex Clog project dates back to 2021, he’s known to be a long-time fan of the brand. According to reports, Crocs initially approached Bembury and offered to send him a pair of their Clogs, and it was the designer himself who suggested a collaboration. The move resulted in one of the most successful partnerships of the past two years, and saw the brand capture the attention of a new, fashion-forward audience with the introduction of the gorpy Pollex Clog.
Speaking on his new role, Bembury said: “We exist in a landscape of ‘here today, gone tomorrow’ collaborations, so the value lies in long-term relationships and that’s what we’ve established. Good design exercises restraint and balances utility with beauty and the Pollex Pod represents that by successfully merging Crocs’ brand identity with my own brand identity.”
Crocs’ statement also highlighted the importance of its collaboration strategy. “For many years, collaborations and product partnerships have been at the core of our brand strategy, and we are very proud of what we have been able to create in partnership with Salehe,” said Crocs Brand President Michelle Poole. “His unique approach to design has brought a fresh perspective to our molded form and enabled us to connect with new consumers. Looking ahead, we are excited to continue this partnership and extend into dynamic new silhouettes.”
Bembury recently revealed the brand’s new Pollex Slides, but it looks like there will be plenty more Pollex models to come over the next two years. What would you like to see? Let us know, and in the meantime why not check out Teddy Santis' latest New Balance efforts.
