It’s fair to say that rapper collabs are pretty much engrained in sneaker culture these days, and having already tapped both Travis Scott and Drake , Nike looks as if it could be adding another star to its roster. During an interview with CoolKicks that aired over the weekend, Lil Yachty may have all but confirmed an upcoming project with the Swoosh, by heavily hinting that an Air Force 1 may be in the works.
During his visit to the LA-based sneaker store, Yachty spoke about how he’d “been trying to get a shoe for seven years”. This comes after he picks up an Air Force 1, quietly mumbling “I just did a Force”. The rapper refuses to confirm a Nike deal, but when pulled up on the comment, he does mention that it will be his first shoe ever, so take from that what you will.
Though he may seem like an off-beat choice for a Nike collab, Yachty is no stranger to sneaker culture. The artist has a pretty stacked collection of Swoosh silhouettes (and has been flexing them very often) and previously worked with Reebok back in 2017. He also starred in a recent NOCTA campaign, and remains close to Drake, who also has his own AF1 alongside his own line. Nike also gave Quavo a one-off Air Jordan 1 this year, proving its willingness to invest in rappers off the back of some of its most successful launches.
Check out the interview below, and let us know what you’d want to see from Lil Yachty and Nike.
