While most of the experimentation we've had with the Western aesthetic can be attributed solely to countless hours playing Red Dead Redemption, there's a certain degree of untapped potential when it comes to styling. Looking to embrace artistic tropes of America's frontiers, London's own DUKE + DEXTER has headed "Way Out West" to deliver a collection inspired by cowboy boots, cattle-wrangling and the Wild West.
Continuing with both the expansion of its men's and new women's offerings, D+D has ditched London's dreary grey sky for the open ranges of Yosemite, California. Working in harmony with its first drop of the season, a wide array of footwear silhouettes, including mules, boots and, of course, Penny Loafers, all arrive with an assortment of colours, prints and patterns on offer.
The incorporation of cow print in this collection hints at the emergence of a potential trend in the realm of footwear. Notably, Nike recently introduced a cow print version of its Air Footscape Woven earlier this month, sparking speculation about the significant role this design might play in shaping fashion as we approach the latter part of 2023.
In addition to the cow print, a welcomed medley of graphical imprints grace the toe box of the brand's famed Penny Loafer. Scorpions, Snakes, and pinup girls from the recent Playboy collaboration each decorate the classic silhouette, fitting firmly in line with the Western aesthetic.
With the ebb and flow of modern fashion trends, it's hard to predict just exactly what will be the next big hit, so at this point, a Western revival is not entirely off the table. For those looking to get their hands on the collection, it will be available from the 2nd of October directly from Duke+Dexter's website. Up next, the viral Stüssy 8-Ball fleece will not be restocking this winter.
