The sneaker space is a fast-moving environment where releases come and go and are often forgotten before you know it, however here at The Sole Supplier we still believe that it’s not all about the latest and greatest “big thing”, and looking back at classic pairs from over the years is as important as ever. Alongside this, any real sneakerhead should also be eyeing up all the pairs that are yet to release and creating a virtual wishlist, making sure they’re as clued-up as possible on how to cop!
2022 is already looking to be an incredible year for sneaker releases, with upcoming releases for popular silhouettes such as the Jordan 1, New Balance's upcoming 990v6, Air Force 1s and of course the Air Max 1 which will be celebrating its 35th anniversary.
We’ve sat down and thought long and hard about upcoming releases and compiled some of our favourites into this list to showcase 10 most hyped and anticipated sneaker releases of 2022. Make sure to keep it locked in right here for all the latest news and updates regarding these pairs and so many more.
Drawing inspiration from the original 1985 Air Jordan 1 “Bred” is this brand-new patent leather take on the classic that many sneakerheads are already eyeing up. While it’s not exactly a Bred reissue, it’s the closest that we’ll likely get for several years. Crafted from premium materials and coming in a limited-edition box, these are without a doubt one of the hottest Jordan releases on our radar right now!
Expect these sneakers to release in early 2022.
The New Balance 990 has long since been a sneakerhead staple and the silhouette has only become more popular as New Balance continues to become one of the most hyped brands on the market right now. The latest variant of the 990, the New Balance 990v6 is set to drop in 2022, designed by the label’s current creative director Teddy Santis (of Aime Leon Dore fame). The uber-cool runner is set to drop in classic NB grey and will no doubt be popular with sneakerheads and fashion fans alike upon its launch.
There has been little said about when this new 990 iteration will release but expect a drop in 2022. Make sure you turn notifications on for this silhouette so you don't miss out!
Love him or hate him, Travis Scott is undoubtedly one of the biggest collaborators in the footwear game right now, and he’s got big plans for the coming months. The “Cave Stone” colourway of his upcoming Travis Scott x Air Max 1 project was recently unveiled and showcases a neutral-hued take on the classic sneaker with contemporary touches such as the Houston-based rapper’s signature reversed Swoosh. Could this be your first Travis Scott pickup?
The Air Jordan 1 “Shadow” is a solid favourite with many team members here at The Sole Supplier, so how exactly can you improve on such a classic? It seems that Nike knows what’s up, as for the upcoming season the label has added GORE-TEX to the legendary colourway, in the process creating the ultimate winter sneaker! Guaranteed to get you through those miserable rainy months, the Jordan 1 GORE-TEX "Shadow" are a must-cop for any serious AJ1 collector.
It didn’t take long for Travis Scott to pop up on this list once again and this time around it’s in regards to the much-anticipated Travis Scott x Nike Air Max 1 “Baroque Brown”. Offering up a much more familiar Travis look, this colourway combines dusty brown with hits of beige and red to form a desert-themed look that will go down an absolute treat with fans of the franchise. The design is finished off with rope-style laces which build upon the militaristic theme we’ve seen across several of Scott’s pairs in the past.
Another one for the Air Jordan 1 lovers is the upcoming “Marina Blue” colourway. Taking hints from the 1985 “Royal Blue” classic, this pair instead offers a reversed colour-blocking look that’s recently been seen across plenty of other AJ1 releases. Iconic features such as the wings logo, Swoosh and perforated toe box make these a rotation essential for any sneakerhead that’s worth their salt.
The release date is currently set for January 2022. These will make a great first pickup for the year!
While some critics claim Kanye West’s Yeezy brand is slowing down, we beg to differ as it seems there’s some absolutely red-hot Yeezy releases on the way! The wild-looking 450 silhouette sent shockwaves throughout the community upon its initial launch, and now it’s set to take on the “Resin” colourway that we’ve seen on Yeezy Slides. If you’re looking for a controversial pair of kicks that will add some fresh flavour to your collection then look no further.
After a hugely successful Nike collaboration back in 2019, creative community The Basement are back at it again, this time joining forces with the hottest footwear brand on the market right now - New Balance. The duo have set to work on the popular 2002R silhouette to create two colourways, one decked out in light beige (pictured) and another in khaki-green, both finished off with black accents. Eagle-eyed footwear fans are already patiently waiting on these to drop and we can definitely see why!
These drop date on these is still TBC, but with pairs already being seeded to friends and family we will hopefully see a release in early 2022.
Teased by the one and only Kylie Jenner, all eyes are on Travis Scott when it comes to the launch of the highly-anticipated Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low “Reverse Mocha”. We all know that anything the Astroworld rapper puts his name to sells out instantly, however his AJ1 collaborations take things to whole new levels. This OG-cut low top showcases a colourway that flips the original “Mocha” get-up for a refreshing look, ideal for those spring outfits next year. Could these be 2022’s most hyped pair?
Virgil Abloh is one of, if not the biggest Nike collaborator of all time. While we’re all still recovering from his epic 50 pair Nike Dunk collection, the Off-White frontman has been cooking once again to come up with some brand-new releases. Recently we saw leaked images of a brand-new Air Force 1 Mid from the man himself, and it’s looking impressive as ever. Opting to work on the lesser-seen mid-top variation, classic Off-White typeface branding is combined with avant-garde colourful running spikes to make for a pair that’s already causing controversy amongst sneakerheads. Definitely one to watch!
