In response to Kyrie Irving sharing antisemitic material on social media back in November, Nike has now permanently terminated its partnership with the NBA star. This comes after the Brooklyn Nets issued him a ban for at least five games, and then Nike suspended the partnership indefinitely. Nike had planned to launch the upcoming Kyrie 8 basketball sneaker in the coming weeks, although this is now cancelled. A spokesperson for Nike stated “at Nike, we believe there is no place for hate speech and we condemn any form of antisemitism. To that end, we’ve made the decision to suspend our relationship with Kyrie Irving effective immediately and will no longer launch the Kyrie 8. We are deeply saddened and disappointed by the situation and its impact on everyone.”
Kyrie Irving apologised via Instagram and denounced antisemitism back in November, although this clearly wasn't enough for the Swoosh. Kyrie Irving is no longer a Nike athlete, Nike spokesperson says. The sides have parted ways one month after Nike suspended its relationship with the Nets star. Irving has one of most popular signatures shoes in the NBA and is now a sneaker free agent.
