Sporty & Rich Review and Size Guide: How Does Sporty & Rich Clothing Fit?

If you’re into your streetwear, chances are you’ll have a good idea who Emily Oberg is, and you’ll know all about her brand, Sporty & Rich. If you need a quick refresh, she was the face of Complex for a good few years, and then became the Creative Lead at Kith Women’s before moving on to focus on being a brand consultant, as well as running her wellness-inspired brand, Sporty & Rich.

Having started as a moodboard account, the Sporty & Rich umbrella now actually encompasses a few creative ventures. There’s a wellness-based lifestyle blog, aesthetics-focused magazine, and Emily has also spoken about how she sees the Sporty and Rich brand expanding to focus on a boutique gym offering too. But it’s easily best known for its apparel, which gives off serious sports-luxe vibes blended with retro styling.

There's no doubt that both retro styles and sportswear are trending right now, and Sporty & Rich nails both categories. Inspired by 80s and 90s sportswear (think Princess Diana on the way to the gym) Sporty & Rich’s ready-to-wear offering consists mostly of casual sweats, tees, and hoodies in minimal and stylish designs. Styles are adorned in graphics that reference old sports clubs, gyms and campaigns, and come in a relaxed fit. But that's not all! Having recently gone from strength to strength, the brand is now venturing even further into the world of accessories, including necklaces and tote bags too, so expect to see lots more from Sporty & Rich this year.

Although they don’t call themselves a sustainable brand as such (Emily notes that to be completely sustainable, you wouldn’t start a brand) Sporty & Rich clothing is made in LA using domestically produced yarn and environmentally-friendly grown cotton. If you're buying from their own store, they also work to a pre-order model for new arrivals, so they only need to make as much as they sell. They also plant trees for each of their orders, so sustainability is definitely on their radar.

Chances are, if you’re here you’re looking to buy from Sporty & Rich and wondering how it fits - whether you should size up or down in Sporty & Rich, or whether Sporty & Rich fits oversized. In short, Sporty and Rich styles are designed for a relaxed fit for a laid-back aesthetic, so if that’s your vibe, stick with your true size. Fit: Although unisex, Sporty & Rich comes in men’s sizing for a relaxed fit, but it's pretty true to size. If you want something to fit more oversized, you can always size up. It comes pre-shrunk so will not get any smaller after washing.

Comfort: Sporty & Rich styles are made from sustainably grown or recycled cotton, and are designed to be super comfortable and ideal for laid-back wearing.

Styling: Style with leggings or matching joggers for the perfect athleisure vibe, or with some jeans for classic 90s style, or go for something super-laid back in a matching tracksuit.

Quality: Sporty & Rich is pretty good quality, but it’s worth noting that because the clothes are garment-dyed, they should be washed separately for the first few washes. This can also lead to some of the products having an uneven colour, but it’s nothing to worry about as it’s a distinct feature of the wash.

I bought a couple of sizes in my Sporty & Rich sweatshirt to make sure I got it exactly right. I’m usually a size 8 in tops, and found that a medium was a perfect true-to-size but baggy fit. If you wanted something more oversized I’d recommend sizing up. Because the products are men's sizing, anything with long sleeves may be a little long in the arms. It’s also worth bearing in mind that the neck hole and waistbands are surprisingly tight though, so if you are between sizes maybe go for the bigger one.

Sporty & Rich pieces are super comfy. My jersey sweatshirt is really luxurious and soft, and it’s great knowing that the cotton comes from sources that are sustainable as possible.

Sporty & Rich sweats go with pretty much anything, but I like to go for athleisure vibes and pair mine with some activewear like leggings, socks and New Balance 990s - even a matching tote bag if I need to! It’s a perfect, easy-going fit and works both when I’m spending the day on a shoot or doing a Saturday morning coffee run!

Sporty & Rich, on the whole, fits true to size, but I prefer my tees a bit oversized so made sure to size up. I would say that because it follows men’s sizing the tees seem quite long, so definitely bear this in mind if you’re on the petite side or are planning to tuck it in at all.

Sporty & Rich tees are definitely comfortable. The cotton is so soft and it has a premium feel to it whilst managing to maintain its vintage look. It’s definitely one of my go-to tees.

The vintage-inspired graphics are what make Sporty & Rich so good, so it’s only right I style them in a throwback kind of way! I pair my Sporty & Rich wellness tee with some vintage light wash Levis and my New Balance 550s to channel 80s and 90s style. It’d look just as cool with some mom-style shorts in the summer too!

Sporty & Rich comes in men's sizing, so where you can get away with going oversized in tops, I’d recommend sticking to your true size in joggers, or you might find they’re a bit wide or long for you. Some classic styles have a drawstring waist that can be adjusted if you find them too big, and most pairs come with cuff hems that you can turn up if they’re too long.

As Emily Oberg points out, Sporty & Rich is made for a leisurely life, so these are going to be up there with the most comfortable joggers you’ll ever own. Sporty & Rich joggers are either fleece-backed or loopback cotton depending on the style, but both are really comfortable.

My Sporty & Rich Joggers come into play when I’m feeling less than sporty (let’s not even talk about the rich part). They are the perfect loungewear jogger, and go well with the matching crewneck or a cropped vest. You’ll also spot me in them for the weekend pastry run, but don’t tell Emily O about that as she definitely wouldn’t approve.

So, there you have it. Sporty & Rich styles come in a pretty relaxed fit anyway, so your true size is normally just fine. If you do prefer an oversized fit, going up one size should be enough.
