Teddy Santis has been a busy guy recently. Not only has he just dropped a new Aimé Leon Dore collection, but he’s also been working hard as Creative Director of New Balance’s Made in USA line, where he’s been rolling out a whole host of covetable colourways across three generations of the Boston-based brand’s 990 model. Now, Santis is set to add yet another style to the mix, as new images of Made in USA 990v4s have been spotted doing the rounds on social media.
Having first dropped in 2016, the 990v4 was well-timed to ride the wave of peak Normcore. At the time, futuristic runners like the adidas Ultraboost and fashion-forward kicks like the Yeezy 350 dominated the scene, so the 990v4 only furthered the brand’s dad-shoe reputation. Though it might have felt out of place originally, it was ahead of its time, as the sneaker scene leant into dad-shoe mania the following year when chunky models like the Yeezy 700 burst onto the scene.
For Santis’ latest trick, the aforementioned V4 has recently been revealed in two colourways. First up, the Massachusetts-made silhouette comes drenched in hues of navy and violet, the former taking over the mesh base while the latter soaks into the hairy suede overlays. The second colourway feels much more akin to New Balance: here, grey suede overlays are trimmed with navy leather, while a creamy mesh base peeks out from underneath.
