Updated 12/10/23: Having recently revealed their upcoming collaboration, Carhartt WIP and New Balance have taken to the net to share the new campaign imagery and release date for their 990v6 "Sculpture Center". Celebrating the brands' "shared heritage of functional design" the shoe comes decked out in premium materials and typical workwear-style colouring.
Set to drop on the 20th of October, there's no doubt that owning this neighbourhood gym-inspired pair is going to be a massive flex, so be sure to hit the 'Notify me' button below if you're looking to get your hands on them.
Original Article: Forget Gorpcore: autumn/winter 2023 is all about workwear - and who better to show us how it’s done than Carhartt? Fresh off the back of its collaborations with the likes of sacai and Palace, the brand’s WIP division is continuing its takeover of the fashion scene, by once again linking up with New Balance.
The past few month's worth of collaborations have certainly paid off for the brand, as search data shows a 16% increase in interest over the past quarter. Under the WIP umbrella, Carhartt is able to venture away from the dependable, working man’s uniform of its parent company, instead infusing the line with more fashion-forward features, which has never been clearer than its collection with sacai, where the most practical thing - a cotton canvas belt bag - would set you back £350.
While there are wider criticisms to be made about selling workwear styles for four figures (yes - the collection’s coats were extremely expensive), there is a degree of practicality in its New Balance 990v6 "Sculpture Center". Given that the footwear manufacturer prides itself on its materials and craftsmanship, the £200+ retail price isn’t exactly shocking, and the duo has proven the demand for its collabs thanks to the launch of its 990v1 last year. Paying homage to Carhartt WIP’s roots, this pair arrives in the brand’s traditional Hamilton Brown shade, with hardwearing nubuck making up the majority of the uppers - just don’t expect them to come with reinforced toe caps as the collection actually takes its inspiration from neighbourhood gyms.
Up next, Stüssy's 8-Ball fleece will not be restocking this winter.
