Rei Kawakubo isn't holding anything back this season. After unleashing the COMME des GARÇONS x Nike Air Foamposite One at her Homme Plus Autumn/Winter 2021 runway showcase yesterday, the legendary Japanese designer has now lent her signature aesthetic to the COMME des GARÇONS x New Balance 57/40, and it's as stealthy as it gets.
A silhouette that only made its debut earlier this month, CDG's take on the 57/40 is understated yet unique. A modernised take of the iconic 574 that has been around since 1988, this shoe builds on top of a "Triple Black" nylon ripstop base while buttery suede panels flank the toebox, heel, and lateral and medial side walls. Infused with Gore-Tex for optimum waterproofing, this is emphasised with additional branding toward the rear.
Down below, you'll find a stacked midsole that looks like a fusion between '80s and '90s design, and rounding everything off is a co-branded tongue tag that proudly showcases the CdGH logo just on top of the lower case New Balance one.
While we obviously hope that the COMME des GARÇONS HOMME x New Balance 57/40 drops soon, unfortunately we're going to have to wait until the end of the year for these to release. Make sure you keep it locked at The Sole Supplier for more news as it develops, and in related news, the Casablanca x New Balance XC-72 has the craziest sole in the business!
