Earlier this year, the shock passing of Born x Raised co-founder Chris “Spanto” Printup rocked the sneaker and streetwear communities. The tragic news came just months before Born x Raised was set to launch its Nike SB collaboration , a release that was tipped to be one of the biggest we’d see this year. Naturally, the drop was put on pause momentarily, but in order to continue Spanto’s legacy, the sneaker has now been given a new release date.
Boasting a blue and white colour palette, and coming peppered with thoughtful details, the Born x Raised Nike SB Dunk Low captured the attention of many SB fans this year. A mix of leather and suede adds texture to the shoe’s build, while holographic Swooshes shoot across the sidewalls, adding extra points of detail. Embroidered elements further call attention to BxR’s input - these come in the form of ‘one block at a time’ wording across the toe caps, and an emblem on the heel counter. If that wasn’t enough, the shoe’s toebox perforations have been reimagined in cut-out diamond shapes, and the inside heel tabs feature an ‘On the Turf’ wordmark.
While the brand continues to recover from its loss, it seems keen to press forward with its release efforts, if only to continue to spread Spanto’s word to the world. Back in August, Born x Raised released a concise, Cali-coded capsule with Stüssy , proving that fans were hungry to play their part in preserving streetwear history.
While the Nike SB drop certainly looked touch-and-go for a minute, a post via Born x Raised on Instagram confirmed that some of the pairs will land on the 28th of September via the brand's own webstore. As for a UK release, the pair is currently tipped to hit skate stores on the 5th of October. Of course, this is still subject to change, but be sure to stay locked to The Sole Supplier, as we’ll be bringing you the latest on all the stockists as we hear more.
Up next, the Nike Dunk Low is getting the "Bacon" treatment.
