Whether you like it or not, there’s no getting away from the retro sneaker trend this year. And, to add to the existing nostalgia bait, Nike is set to bring back the Mac Attack for another run. Recently revealed in a black and grey colourway, John McEnroe’s signature sneaker is also set to get a Social Status-induced makeover, as the Whitaker Group’s brand is the first brand ever to put a collaborative spin on the iconic silhouette.
Revealed over on Instagram by 76ers player and sneaker collector P.J. Tucker, the upcoming Social Status x Nike Mac Attack collab looks set to land in three colourways that could well give the New Balance 550 a run for its money. Judging by the early photos, it looks as if the sneakers could arrive with tear-away uppers that give way to textured Swooshes and extra branding hits at the heel.
Though the mid-cut vintage sneaker has taken a backseat for a long while, it's been a firm favourite of the likes of Travis Scott and LeBron James over the past few years. As models like the 550 have quickly gained traction within the scene, it makes complete sense for the Swoosh to respond with a similar offering, and we expect a few more pairs to drop over the summer months.
Are you happy to see the classic make its comeback? Let us know, and in the meantime, check out the upcoming adidas x Clarks x Ronnie Fieg Sambas.
