Rimowa x adidas NMD S1 Olive

Having first reworked the iconic NMD with Pharrell, adidas have now teamed up with German luxury luggage brand RIMOWA to take the silhouette to the next level. The adidas x RIMOWA NMD_S1 is part of a 2-piece collaboration by the two powerhouses of German manufacturing - the other being a travel case/backpack in RIMOWA’s signature aluminium shell.

The adidas x RIMOWA NMD S1 sneaker comes in a shade of olive grey that references the colourway of the backpack with orange accents on the heel and chord laces as well as an orange insole giving the shoe an air of utilitarian understatement.

Made from the usual Primeknit uppers, BOOST midsole, and high grip rubber outsole, the trainer sports subtle references to RIMOWA’s signature style, from the panels that project from the midsole to the semi-translucent midsole that includes thin block moulds as well as RIMOWA branding on the offset tongue tab and heel tabs. There is no shortage of adidas references, either, with the brand with the three stripes printing its logo and trefoil on the sole and a collection of trefoils forming traction outsole grips. But this isn’t just two company’s designing side-by-side - the shared nature of the project is gently brought to the fore via a “Made in Germany”-panel waxed into the insole and the coordinates of each company's headquarters printed on the midsole.

This collaboration definitely has the making of a beautiful friendship between two companies that have a long history of keeping us moving in style and we can’t wait to see them collaborating many more times in the future.
