Japanese sportswear company ASICS combines design elements from three classic running models to craft the new GEL-NYC silhouette. The silhouette is intended for lifestyle purposes but with the capabilities and features of a performance running shoe. This ASICS GEL-NYC “White Steel Grey” delivers aesthetically-pleasing dad shoe aesthetics with its clean white and grey combination.
ASICS has been the go-to brand for many professional runners and marathoners due to the brand’s elite running footwear options. The brand was first formed in 1977, but its sports heritage dates back to 1949 when Kihachiro Onitsuka founded Onitsuka Tiger. After a merger with GTO Co. and JELENK Co., ASICS became one of the leading sportswear brands, while Onitsuka Tiger focused on casual footwear. The ASICS GEL-NYC takes inspiration from the GEL-NIMBUS 3 and MC-PLUS V to create the upper. It has a breathable mesh base with suede and textile overlays reinforcing the sides. The midsole tooling originates from the GEL-CUMULUS 16, a running model from 2014. Visible GEL cushioning technology adorns the lateral forefoot and heel for soft impact protection.
This colourway features a white mesh base and grey suede overlays with metallic steel textile panels. The greyscale upper brings different tones to achieve the metallic effect. Red accents comprise the ASICS branding on the lateral rear, heel, tongue, and sockliner.
