Nike Air Max 1 '86 Royal Blue

From Centre Pompidou to Beaverton, Oregon, Air Max Day 2024 marks the tenth year of the annual Nike celebration. A must-cop sneaker for collectors and avid fans alike, the Nike Air Max 1 ‘86 “Royal Blue” is back in its purest form.

This legendary OG iteration is a follow-up to the equally iconic “Varsity Red”, which dropped in the previous year. This remastered version harkens back to the original Big Bubble sketch by Tinker Hatfield, the way the designer envisioned it to be until a series of setbacks forced the Swoosh to update its structure. This sleek version features a clean white mesh underlay offset by light grey suede overlays reinforcing the midfoot and rear. Signature Royal Blue accents highlight the suede mudguard, Swoosh on the sidewalls, and plastic eyelet.

Classic Nike Air branding decorates the woven tongue tag, insoles, and heel panel. The crisp white PU midsole carries a four-window unit on the rear, complementing the hidden encapsulated bubble in the forefoot. A black and white waffle rubber sole lies below, staying true to the design popularised by ‘80s running trainers. Like previous ‘86 Big Bubble releases, the shoe comes in a pre-aged box similar to Reimagined Jordan models.
