Nike Air Max 1 Urawa

Most people won’t even realise that this Air Max 1 sequel from Nike has been 19 years in the making. The first “Urawa” edition dropped in 2004, based on the team colours of the Urawa Dragons, a J League Football Club. Just like on the original, Nike has included the club’s insignia on the heel, once again embroidered in silver. After the three-way collaboration between Nike, LeBron and Liverpool Football Club that also dropped in 2023, we’re starting to wonder if football clubs will be getting more love from the Air Max 1 silhouette.

Unlike the original, red has almost been left off the sequel entirely, save for the top eyelets, coloured Air unit and insoles. However making a return is the white Swoosh and midsole, as well as gold branding on the tongue label. A black mesh underlays the upper, poking out onto the toe box and ankle collar, ensuring this Air Max 1 stays breathable. The most important accent remains sewn onto the heel, with the Urawa Dragon crest almost hidden on the grey back panel. The club’s dragon logo also features on the insole, printed in black above a mini-Swoosh that stands out against the red background. Some sneakerheads are even drawing a connection to a Mac Attack-inspired colourway, which implies there could be waiting around the corner. We've already seen a Mac Attack-inspired Dunk so it's not too far out of the imagination.

This is a must-cop for serious Air Max 1 fanatics out there, especially as the secondary market prices for the original pairs have soared since its release. It’s also worth mentioning that the 2004 edition would most likely need a sole swap seeing as they’re almost 20 years old, so why not save yourself some trouble and pick up this tasteful sequel?
