Tinker Hatfield was sick and tired of bringing multiple shoes to his workouts in the 1980s. His bag was filled with different shoes for different activities that ranged from shooting hoops, lifting weights and playing racquetball. That was why he designed the Nike Air Trainer 1. This shoe was not a better basketball shoe or a better running shoe, it was a shoe that was just right in between and could fit the purposes of people who crosstrain. Check out one of its latest variations, the Nike Air Trainer 1 “Citron”.
This Air Trainer 1 pays homage to the “Citron” colourway of the Air Trainer SC II that was released in 1989. The shoe’s base is pristine white smooth leather. The overlays on the toe cap, mid-panels, and heel counter are light grey. A third overlay on the vamp area is dark grey tumbled leather featuring a Velcro strap with teal Nike branding. The signature profile Swooshes that glide across both the medial and lateral quarter panels are teal as well, matching the Nike Swooshes on the tongues and the embroidered Nike branding on the heel counters. A white and citron yellow sole unit finishes off the whole ensemble.
