Nike Cortez Running Rabbit Wheat Gold

The people over at the Swoosh have gone rabid with rabbit-based footwear thanks to it being the animal’s year in the Chinese Calendar. That being said, Nike is no stranger to hopping on the big-eared animal trend with collaborations with the Dave White x Nike Air Max 95 “Rabbit” from 2016 and the classic Ralph Steadman-Illustrated Hare Air Max 180 poster. Now the Nike Cortez has been given a rabbit-related makeover with this latest version of the traditional runner.

Draped in a “Wheat Gold” and white swoosh, the upper keeps it classic with subtle stitch lines running throughout. The midsole has also been given an old-fashioned treatment with its cream colour and dark brown wedge, these Cortez look like they’ve been plucked straight out of a seventies Nike product catalogue. The tongue patch uses the 70s Swoosh logo, a sight we’ll never grow tired of thanks to the great sense of nostalgia when thinking of that early era of the brand. A tassel sticks out on top of the toe box in supple brown leather, attached by a central eyestay which holds it between the laces and foam tongue. This feature is one we’re not used to seeing on the Cortez and adds another element to the vintage theme of the shoe. Printed on the insole, the “Running Rabbit” motif can be found in its most obvious form thanks to a black and white illustration which shows just as described.
