Yeezy 500 High Utility Black

German footwear brand adidas adds another Yeezy 500 to its August ’23 drop, but it’s unlike any version we’ve seen before. Ye’s earlier attempt at designing a Boot dates all the way back to 2015 with the debut of the Yeezy 950 “Pirate Black”, a piece of footwear which went on to earn a cult following within the sneakerhead community. Now available to the public for the first time ever are two hybrid versions of the Yeezy 500, arriving with a higher cut and appropriately rugged tooling. This Yeezy 500 High Utility “Black” may not have been on everyone’s radar, but considering the crazy resell prices of the 950, this iteration is a perfect alternative.

Boasting a higher cut than even the previous Yeezy 500 High iterations, the silhouette takes a further step away from the previous elevated sneaker genre and dives into the world of uneven terrain with this Utility cut. Taking the same ‘Feet You Wear’- inspired sole unit from the low-cut Yeezy 500, the pod structures and traction pattern provides all the balance necessary. Gone are the mesh underlays, replaced here with a harder-wearing ripstop canvas that adds extra durability. Metal lace stays and support rings have been added to the laces as well, once again enhancing the ability to withstand wear on this high-cut edition. Like the “Utility Black” low version that dropped back in ’18, this Yeezy 500 High rendition embraces a similar blacked-out palette, hiding any dirt and keeping these looking fresh for longer.
