Avant-Garde footwear brand Empty Behaviour has linked up with ASICS on a pair of shoes that prove that the girl-coded sneaker trend shows no signs of abating.
The sneaker is a reimagining of the ASICS Hypersync sneakers, but in its new iteration, it’s more ballet shoe than dad trainer. Its historically chunky sole has been exchanged for wafer-thin cushioning, with the signature Tiger Claw logo on the side panel rendered in pleats, a technique traditionally found in classical dance attire. Adding to the “sneakerina” aesthetic, the shoe’s tongue is cushioned in ruched, ballet-reminiscent satin, while the toe is overlaid with doily-style lace. With its contrasting combo of wrestling and femme aesthetics, it tracks that the shoe was devised under the theme, “powerette.”

Both brands’ logos can be found on the toe box, while the “Empty Behavior” logo is emblazoned on the shoe’s heel. And it’s not the first time ASICs and the Chinese experimental brand have joined forces. The pair collaborated on a solid silver art sculpture of the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 10.1 back in 2024, and later teamed up for an event in Chengdu centered around reshaping the GEL-Kayano Legacy trainers.
The collaboration is part of a wider trend of legacy sneaker houses enlisting emerging, often avant-garde designers to re-work their OG design codes into something fresh: think AVAVAV collaborating with adidas Originals, Thug Club’s collaborations with adidas and Fila, and Casiba’s collaborations with Champion.
The Empty Behavior x ASICS Hypersync will launch in China and Hong Kong on June 27, followed by a global release on July 2, 2026.
