It's crazy to think that rumours of the sacai x Nike Cortez "Grey" first leaked all the way back in December of last year. While the design of the classic silhouette has remained pretty much the same for five decades, the Beaverton brand has given Chitose Abe the unique opportunity to rework it from the ground up. Not many collaborators in history have had the chance to do this, so this is extremely exciting.
After nothing but a series of leaks and teasers, we're now getting up close and personal with sacai's Cortez. The second colourway to drop as part of the collection, this one switches out the signature red, white, and blue palette in favour of something a little more understated. With a dark grey nylon upper, suede panels make their way across the lacing system and toebox, while crisp white pebbled leather adorns the Swooshes and heel for a melody of materials.
Of course, it wouldn't be a sneaker by Chitose Abe without the deconstruction. From doubled up tongues to a revamped midsole, you'll find that the unit is actually taken straight from models like the Zoom Fly, complete with the exposed forefoot Nike Air bubble that offers up extra cushioning and comfort with every step. This is painted in an off-white hue that displays a tastefully vintage vibe.
