As protests and marches in support of the Black Lives Matter movement continue around the world, more and more of your favourite brands are stepping forward and joining the fight for change. While some have made sizeable donations, others have offered up products and words of support with promise for change.
Let's take a look at what some of the world's biggest brands are doing to help, and don't forget you can find resources with fundraisers, podcasts, reading material and speeches in our article about the Black Lives Matter movement here.
Nike Inc.
Last week, Nike posted a powerful “Don't Do It” video on its social channels, speaking out against racism and showing support for the Black Lives Matter movement. Now, Nike Inc. (which includes Jordan Brand and Converse) has pledged $40m to support the black community in the USA. The donated money will help a range of organisations that promote social justice, work against racial inequality and helps educate the public.

In a public statement, the Nike Inc. President and CEO, John Donahoe, said: “Systemic racism and the events that have unfolded across America over the past few weeks serve as an urgent reminder of the continued change needed in our society. We know Black Lives Matter. We must educate ourselves more deeply on the issues faced by Black communities and understand the enormous suffering and senseless tragedy racial bigotry creates.”
This isn't the first sizeable donation Nike has made this year; this $40m offering follows a hefty $17m donation to COVID-19 efforts earlier in the year.

New Balance
In light of recent events, New Balance has offered a donation of 10,000 pairs of shoes to Black organisations in greater Atlanta. Along with the trainers, New Balanced released a statement that the 10,000 pairs are being donated in honour of Ahmaud Arbery – an unarmed Black man who was murdered while jogging in Georgia. They will be provided in Arbery's name

Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand
Following on from Nike Inc.'s $40m donation, Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand have pledged $100m to be donated over the next 10 years in support of black communities. The funds offered up by MJ will go to organisations that ensure racial equality and social justice. Craig Williams – the president of Jordan Brand – released a statement saying:
“Through our Jordan Wings Program, we have been focused on providing access to education, mentorship and opportunity for Black youth facing the obstacles of systemic racism. But we know we can do more. In addition to the investment from NIKE Inc., we are announcing a joint commitment from Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand to donate $100 million over the next 10 years. We must join forces with the community, government and civic leaders to create a lasting impact together. There is still more work for us to do to drive real impact for the Black community. We embrace the responsibility.”
