There's no doubt in any sneakerhead's mind that the Ben & Jerry's x Nike SB Dunk Low "Chunky Dunky" is the shoe of the year. Famous for its crazy collaboration, whacky inspiration, and insane design details, absolutely everyone wanted a pair of these when they dropped.
With that said, it's so easy to be blinded by the hype and just cop online without making sure you've got a legit pair in hand, so @snkrsden have compiled a nifty little guide on how to tell if they're "Chunky Dunky" of "Flunky Dunky"!
To start things off, the shoe box looks ok from a distance until you inspect the tag. On the real pair, the colourway name is stated as "White" and "University Gold" while the fake one hilariously reads "Moo Cow" and "Ice Cream". The font size is also off too and the QR code fails to scan.
In terms of how the shoe box feels, it just seems a lot cheaper and the proportions don't fit properly, leaving a ton of creases and dents when it folds over.
Moving towards the "Chunky Dunky" itself, the toe box is much wider on the fake version and the perforations seem a lot more prominent. The tongue is also considerably rounder compared to the legit shoe - probably a standard element taken straight from another shoe like the Air Force 1.
If you take a look at the laterals, the first thing that you'll probably find on the fakes is the lack of clarity on the cow print. The real pair features a black and beige palette while the knockoff version opts for a more Dalmatian puppy-like look. The Nike Swoosh is also a lot further down the side panel as well.
Coming around to the heel, the counterfeit Dunk Low features a range of glossy clouds that look like they're made from patent leather. The actual heel badge itself is a lot bigger in comparison as well which is a huge give away.
Shifting towards the bottom of the shoe, the biggest sign of a fake here is the hexagonal panel in the centre which is painted in an almost-neon hue to the point that the "Nike SB" branding is almost invisible.
We can't fully legit check your "Chunky Dunky" without take a look at that insole. Nike SB leave a series of equally-spaced ridges along where the big toe rests and this is something that they've always done. The faux B&J branding is written in a completely different font too and it's a lot smaller than found on the real pair.
This is probably the funniest detail of them all, but the real pair obviously reads "If it's not fun, why do it?" while the fakes, for some reason, are stitched with "If it's hotfun whf do it?" We have no idea why they decided to do this, but it sure makes our job a lot easier.
Legit check courtesy of @snkrsden, let us know if you recently copped the Ben & Jerry's x Nike SB Dunk Low "Chunky Dunky" and make sure you've got a 100% real pair in-hand! In related news, the upcoming Nike Dunked deconstructs a classic!
