We’re heading back to 1972, to a literal waffle iron and a dream. The Nike Moon Shoe is returning in 2026, and honestly, the timing couldn't be better. With the "Summit White/Team Crimson" and the "Soft Pearl" on the horizon, the Beaverton brand is digging deep into the archives to give us a masterclass.

The Moon Shoe initially started as a DIY experiment. Bill Bowerman famously ruined his wife’s waffle iron to create a sole that gripped the track like nothing else. Only about 12 pairs exist from that original run. While these 2026 iterations will cost you a reasonable $105 (expected around £100 here in the UK), an original pair famously fetched a staggering $437,500 at a Sotheby’s auction in 2019. That is a lot of money for some vintage rubber and nylon, but it proves one thing: history sells.
If you wonder why a thin soled runner from the seventies suddenly feels relevant, look at Simon Porte Jacquemus. When the French designer reworked the silhouette (renamed the J Force 1 / JF1) and the related aesthetic, it vanished from shelves instantly. He stripped away the athletic intensity and replaced it with “South of France” chic. This paved the way for the Moon Shoe to transition from a track nerd to a hit with the masses.
Last year, we saw a massive push for the Field General, but it lacked something. To best explain this, the Field General feels like a heavy football relic; the Moon Shoe feels like a breeze.
The magic of the Moon Shoe lies in its lack of a modern "super athlete" narrative. Unlike a LeBron or a Jordan, this shoe doesn't demand you jump higher or run faster. It’s a blank canvas. Much like the adidas Samba, the Moon Shoe bends to your specific style. It doesn't wear you; you wear it. In my opinion, it’s the ultimate palate cleanser for a market exhausted by over engineered sneakers.
The "Summit White/Team Crimson": This one screams "vintage varsity." The oversized red Swoosh against the cream nylon base provides just enough pop without trying too hard. The gum rubber outsole is the chef's kiss here; it adds that earthy, retro grit that looks better the more you scuff it up.
The "Soft Pearl": If you want something that rivals the Panda Dunks for versatility but with ten times the taste, this is it. It’s clean, monochromatic, and clinical. The "Soft Pearl" off white tone gives it a premium edge that pure white often lacks.
The industry is currently obsessed with the low profile sector. We’ve moved past the chunky dad shoe era and entered the "Slim & Sophisticated" age. The Moon Shoe fits here perfectly. It offers a slice of genuine sporting heritage without the sweaty, clichéd gym connotations.
Expect these to drop in Summer 2026. For all updates on these sneakers and more, make sure you download The Sole Supplier app.
