We’re just a few days into 2025, and sneakerheads are already lacing up for a major win: the Air Jordan 1 Low OG ‘Rookie of the Year.’ Think of it as the younger sibling of 2018’s high top release, here for those fans who couldn't snag that five years ago with another shot at redemption; and a piece of sneaker history.
The inspiration behind the ‘Rookie of the Year’ comes from Michael Jordan’s legendary rise in 1985, the year he was crowned NBA Rookie of the Year. On the day he accepted the award, MJ rocked an unforgettable tan suede chore jacket; an outfit widely celebrated as one of his best looks. Now, that iconic fit has been reimagined in sneaker form.
The shoe features a clean white leather base, accented with overlays of rich ‘Golden Harvest’ nubuck across the toebox and lacing system. A bold black Nike Swoosh runs along the sidewalls, while Jordan Brand’s iconic winged basketball logo graces the heel. To complete the look, the trainers are paired with complementary cotton laces and a creamy off white Air midsole that exudes vintage charm, reminiscent of 2022’s ‘Lost & Found’ release.
This drop is already shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated releases, and for good reason. Not only does it celebrate one of MJ’s most memorable moments, but it also kicks off the 40th anniversary of Jordan Brand; a milestone promising even more exciting launches ahead.
Originally set to release earlier this month, the Air Jordan 1 Low OG ‘Rookie of the Year’ has been rescheduled for 18th April. Priced at £145, these sneakers will be available via Nike, the SNKRS app, and select retailers worldwide.
