Through the years, adidas' famed tennis performance silhouette has been reworked innumerable times. The adidas Stan Smith, named by famous American tennis player and Grand Slam champion Stanley Roger Smith all the back in the '60s, rose to fame for its stylish and contemporary look. The shoes even hosted some of the most iconic collaborations in modern times, with the likes of Raf Simons, Pharrell Williams, and even Marc Jacobs, placing the Stans on the line-up of every sneakerhead's must-have. As the adidas Originals Stan Smith continue to be one of the Three Stripe brand's best-selling trainers, it's only right for the sportswear giant to rework the construction from the ground up with eco-friendly materials to move towards a more sustainable future.
As the much-loved sportswear label commit to end plastic waste and completely ditch the usage of virgin plastic by the year 2024, the Stan Smith has been reconstructed inside and out with its originally developed Primegreen recycled materials. An all-new PU coating dons the upper, which is a synthetic woven base fabric sourced from Japan that enables the kicks to maintain its premium leather touch, and most of all, it provides water-resistant capabilities and ensures that it delivers a super lightweight feel just like the OG design.
Sticking true to its classic colour arrangement of rich white and green, the lateral and medial side panels are graced with the perforations in the form of instantly-recognisable three parallel lines. The upper is housed by a full-length midsole and outsole that is made from rubber waste, finally rounded off with fabric-recycled laces and adidas' branding details throughout, predominantly the Trefoil logo imprinted on the tongue, insoles, and heel and like. All in all, the pair still looks the same as the original, even long-term sneakerheads like us won't be able to tell the difference.
Now available on the adidas website along with a bunch of standard colourways and themed variants such as the "I Am Groot" which pays homage Marvel Comics' fan-favourite extraterrestrial tree monster, the earth-friendly adidas Originals Stan Smith is the ultimate way to go green. Keep it locked in right here at The Sole Supplier as we'll be the first to let you know of all adidas trainer release dates, news, teasers and while you're here, let us tell you that the newest Bad Bunny x adidas Forum Low "Easter Egg" is definitely worth the hunt!
