The Sole Supplier Chat to London Legend Michael Dapaah

Chances are if you're from the UK and haven't heard of Michael Dapaah, you may have been living under a rock. Michael exploded onto the scene back in 2017 with his Youtube mockumentary series SWIL (Somewhere in London), where he first produced his most famous characters MC Quakez and the now world-renowned Big Shaq.

With Big Shaq's comedic hit "MANS NOT HOT" sitting at a whopping 395 million views on Youtube, Michael has simply reached new viral heights across the globe and has proudly carried his London and Ghanian roots along with him.

The Sole Supplier were lucky enough to catch up with Michael Dapaah recently to talk all things sneakers, clothing and much more, so if you've got a few minutes, kick back, relax and check out our interview with the legend himself.

"School, secondary school, the JD sports duffle bag was my PE bag. I made it my PE bag by force in year 8 because I used to see all the olders and that. They didn’t have school bags, so they put their paper and pencil case in the duffle bag. There used to be a blue duffle bag with the white JD logo on it, I wanted to go to JD Sports just to get that bag."

"I put my football boots in it and one of the studs went through and my dad didn’t like me carrying it, he used to say, you need to stop carrying a carrier bag to school, “African men are interesting.” That was my first proper memory of a JD duffle bag and I always tried to keep one for as long as I could. You know what’s mad, I think JD duffle bags in school were so precious. I could have sworn that in the changing rooms when you went PE and that, people would rob them. They would rob a JD duffle bag."

"School, secondary school. Lovely, comfortable, brick. Why is the white one different to the black one? Every time I see black Air Forces it takes me back to secondary school because I couldn’t afford them, and I wanted them. Now I can get them, thanks Nike!"

"Bootcuts. Bootcuts with trainers and I think I wore them with shoes, loafers, everything, they were hard times. I didn’t know about tailoring back then, it was just a lot of material. I’ve got a really good tailor now; he could turn them into slim fits if I still had some. But yeah, I wore bootcuts with shoes, we were proper into them, we thought it was cool. Even True Religion jeans were bootcut really, do you remember them? When they first came out, they were basically flares, and I only had one pair, I thought I was lit as well."

"Lion, my personal style is a lion. A lion is bold, confident, they’re their own leaders and are never scared. It took me a little minute to understand this fashion thing but once I do it, I do my own thing, I know how to mix and blend clothes together, I’m unique with it."

"I think Kevin Hart has really good dress sense, he’s really dope. Travis Scott, I think he’s really dope, he has really good dress sense. Winnie Harlow, amazing dress sense and then I also really like Cheryl Cole, I think she’s quite fly, I mean it, she knows how to piece it together, I’ve seen her do some ensembles. Maya is a really good dresser too; I mean her stylists do a really great job. Nah I’m joking, that’s my darg she’s cool."

"Worst dressed, there’s so many people that don’t know how to dress that you don’t think, ah you’re one of them. Roman Kemp, I saw him wearing something on flipping Gogglebox, I said ‘what are you doing bruv?’ His dad looked lit and he looked… I said, ‘Roman what are you doing?’ I just thought ‘nah bruv'. Harry Styles, Harry Styles your name is Harry Styles, what the heck have you been wearing bruv? Harry Styles. I think Harry Styles. Yes. Harry Styles. Liam is alright, Liam knows how to throw it together, he’s good bruv but Harry Styles is not styling bruv. You better live up to your name."

"First date I like to do fun stuff init. I think dinner’s boring cause how long can I look at your face and eat? Let’s go out to dinner, I just don’t get it, how long can you look at someone’s face? Hello mate. How long can you do that for? I think you can never go wrong with a plain white Air Force One, you can wear that with a lot of things, or a nice pair of Jordan’s, so yeah something like that if I’m going on a chilled one. I like activities, I think bowling’s quite cool, mate everyone knows how to bowl."

"Jordan 1’s, choosing a colour way is too hard. I’ve got a pair of ‘Not for resale’ ones, which are hard. Those are sick!"
