After appearing in several greyscale colourways to celebrate New Balance’s Grey Day 2023 event, the classic New Balance 996 surfaces in a vintage navy blue makeover. The silhouette turned 35 in 2023, and the Boston-based brand re-released the shoe to honour this cult classic. This New Balance 996 “Vintage Indigo” boasts an old-school design approach, featuring yellowish midsoles underneath a navy blue upper construction with removable N logos as part of the “35th Anniversary” pack.

New Balance’s 99X series is arguably the most iconic franchise from the brand, spanning decades since debuting in 1982. While the New Balance 996 looked similar to its predecessors, the sneaker’s more streamlined shape made it a viable option for New Balance 99X purists. This rendition celebrates the silhouette’s 35th anniversary, giving the shoe an old-school-inspired overhaul. It features an indigo mesh base reinforced with premium pigskin suede overlays. The grey N logo sits atop an indigo suede hang tag that hides an embroidered NB logo on the lateral panel. Yellowish stains on the ENCAP midsole resonate with the vintage ‘80s era, fulfilling the theme of this two-pack capsule.
