Can the New Balance WRPD Runner rival the hugely popular NB 327 ? The Boston footwear brand is adding an exciting new silhouette to its already impressive roster in 2023 with its WRPD Runner. First teased at Paris Fashion Week during the AURALEE runway show, it didn't take long before the model caught the attention of keen-eyed sneakerheads. This “Sea Salt Sandstone” iteration will be the first to grace the shelves, landing in an elegant set of hues that only highlights the shoe’s sleek design.
Similar to the NB 990v4 “ White Cream ” and 990v6 “ Cream Beige ”, the NB WRPD Runner is constructed from a set of neutral tones. A white jumbo mesh underlay promotes breathability while perfectly fitting within the current trend of early 2000s mesh runners. Typical of the brand’s design language, the suede overlays are webbed onto the upper, yet forgoes the usual triple layering for a more minimalist look. A large “N” is printed onto the side wall, saving vital grams that help reduce weight on the WRPD Runner, just as it did on the NB 327. Of course, the new sole unit takes centre stage and deservingly so, here in a mix of beige and sail that truly complements the upper. Taking notes from the updated NB 990v6 , the chunky tooling remains rooted in the brand’s DNA, with a signature heel-to-forefoot split. Additional sculpted details on the midsole and outsole seek inspiration from the New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Elite v3 , the brand’s top-tier running shoe, so rest assured that the WRPD Runner is comfortable on foot.
