Nike’s Be True campaign was launched in 2012 by Nike employees to build diversity, creativity, and expression. It’s been 11 years and the campaign remains consistent with annual Nike sneaker releases. One of the silhouettes in the Be True 2023 collection is this iconic Air Max 97. This running trainer was one of the groundbreaking models from the Air Max line. Designed by Christian Tresser, the AM97 used Japanese bullet trains as the main inspiration for its shape. Natural ripples of water comprised the wavy upper design of the shoe. Full-length visible Nike Air made its debut on this model and became a popular lifestyle shoe in the following decade. The Be True edition replaces ripples with ruffles in different colours that represent Pride flags. Blue, green, yellow, orange, and red compose the wavy panels. They sit atop a beige leather mudguard. Customisable metallic bracelets with Be True branding hangs underneath the lateral Swoosh. More Be True labels adorn the heel tab and sockliner. The black waffle sole completes this unique colourway.
