The Dunk Low and Air Force 1 are two silhouettes set up for the 80s athletic make-up, with the Air Max 97 now joining in on the action. The Air Max 97 saw its 25th anniversary in 2022 but failed to achieve a warm reception from sneakerheads as it did in 2017. This wasn’t for lack of colourways as some classics made a return such as the “Silver Bullet” which shockingly sat on shelves. Now Nike is trying a new formula with this Special Edition “Pro Green” that looks to the pre-90s era for inspiration, a time before the AM97 had even been created.
The 97s wave panelling on the upper is predominantly covered in dark green, with one white panel managing to sneak into the arrangement. Red has been the colour designated to the Swoosh branding and remains stationed at its regular posts. A pair of sail rope laces weave in and out of the eyestays, laying over the padded cream tongue below. The insole bears the same italic Nike lettering and phrase as it does on the Dunk and Air Force 1 editions, delivering the phrase, “The Sports & Athletic Company”. Although the colour palette may look to the past, the Air Max model’s key features are still present, with the 3M panelling and pull tabs firmly taking its place once again.
This SE edition is definitely one for the AM97 heads out there, so if your “Miami Hurricane” pair is looking a bit beat, you should grab this pair by following us at The Sole Supplier!
