Sneakers that feature a contrasting toe box have always had a niche spot within the footwear industry. The most notable example of this is Ronnie Fieg’s ASICS Gel-Lyte III “Salmon Toe”, which had a huge moment during the Gel-Lyte era of 2013-14. Another equally pink toe box can be located on the Shoe Gallery x Reebok Classic Leather R12 “Flamingos at War”, a collaborative pair produced for the 30th anniversary of the CL silhouette. Now Nike wants in on the action, dipping its toe (pardon the pun) into the lineage of the salmon toe shoes with this latest Nike Dunk Low release.
While the toe box appears as described, the upper looks to a range of different hues for contrast. An ocean blue adorns the side walls, outsole and laces, giving the shoe it’s dark backdrop for the lighter tones to bounce off. A nude-coloured Swoosh wraps around a teal collar, drawing further attention to the punchy shade of pink on the front portion of the shoe. While this release doesn’t feature a hook-based Swoosh such as the “Rainbow Trout” or “Fishhook” edition, the blue tones play into the oceanic motif that surrounds the salmon pink colourway.
If you’re a fan of the different salmon toe editions or just think this would be a fun addition to your Nike Dunk rotation, make sure you keep it locked into The Sole Supplier to find out how to grab yourself a pair!
