Retailer 7-Eleven has filed a complaint against Nike over its latest Air Max 95 colourway. Fortunately, we at The Sole Supplier managed to get our hands on an early pair, giving us a detailed look at a Nike 110 whose release now appears uncertain. While we wait for more developments surrounding the 7-Eleven-inspired Air Max 95, here are our thoughts on the situation so far.

According to Sole Retriever, “7-Eleven has asserted seven causes of action against Nike, including three violations of the Lanham Act for Federal Trademark Infringement, Federal Dilution, and Federal Unfair Competition, and four state law claims, including Trademark Infringement in violation of Texas common law.”
The two brands were previously set to collaborate officially on a 7-Eleven x Nike Dunk in 2020. This release was supposedly cancelled as they were scheduled to drop in time for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, however as we know, the games were cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Although it is rumoured that a few friends & family pairs managed to make it out of the Nike vaults.
As of the time of this writing, sneakerheads on reddit have said Nike has pulled the shoes from US SNKRS app, while unverified reports circulating online also claim retailers have been asked to hold the release until further notice.
Of course, you can imagine the case has sparked a lot of online conversation, with one commenter on our recent video writing, “hopefully they still release before this is settled, only 7 days so I can try cop and then sort this out lawyers” and another saying, “this just made this drop more exclusive. I see I’m a have to enter multiple raffles”. However, someone clearly wasn’t on Nike’s side, commenting “I hope 7-11 wins 😂 show Nike how it feels for once lmao”, so it seems like opinions are split.

Historically, legal disputes and cancelled releases have only added to a sneaker's lore. Shoes like the Nike Air Force 1 "Puerto Rico" and Nike SB Dunk "Freddy Krueger" have gone on to wear their controversial histories like a badge of honour among sneakerheads.

Well, it’s basic human psychology, the uncertainty surrounding a shoe's future often makes it even more desirable - there’s nothing cooler than wearing something that you shouldn’t (within reason of course).
Another consequence of being cancelled or recalled is that the shoes become very hard to get hold of, and we know how much sneakerhead’s value rarity. Owning a pair of the Freddy Kruger Nike SB’s is always followed up with a ‘how did you get your hands on those?’, meaning the attached story makes thes shoe even more interesting.
You can keep it locked to The Sole Supplier to stay up-to-date on this release and find out if the 7-Eleven 110 will even be dropping.
