Why did adidas just use a Mexican traffic jam as the backdrop for its latest campaign? Believe it or not, the answer makes total sense.

You would probably be forgiven for thinking the World Cup was solely taking place in the US with all of the political talk going on. But adidas is thankfully, reminding us that Mexico and Canada are just as involved in this year’s Americana tournament.
So why the traffic jam? For many fans, the road to the World Cup is just as difficult as the players, with this latest campaign from the Three Stripes giving us a glimpse into that. While the typical UK fan’s journey to the games is dominated by a long haul flight, that trip looks totally different depending on which part of the world you’re travelling from.
For many Cenral and South American supporters, getting to the Mexico games can involve long coach journeys up the Pan-American Highway, hitting stand still traffic once on the outskirts of one of the nation's bustling cities. With the sun beating down on you and the endless honking of cars, this road to the World Cup isn't for the faint of heart.
Photographed by Chris Rhodes, the backdrop of Mexico’s gridlock traffic will be the natural habitat for many fans heading to the games this summer. Of course, you’ll probably not look as refreshed or relaxed as the models in the shoot, but your nation’s jersey and adidas Samba can look just as good.
Spotted in the campaign is of course the Mexico Away Jersey, beautifully worn next to that of the adidas Chile Home jersey from the 1993/94 season. Also styled in the collection is Argentina’s Home kit alongside the new adidas Megaride F50s, a shoe which only gets better every time I see it. Finally, if you run cold and need an easy zip up number this summer, then the Firebird track top is a great basic.
